Joel and I usually exchange cards for holidays and that’s about it. We are simple people in this regard and just enjoy a date night together. But, this year just feels a bit different. I have really found a new appreciation for Joel and how he has stepped in to ‘save the day’ literally every.single.day. It’s been a tough 5 months for all of us. Joel has been working long hours at the hospital and when he gets home he immediately takes the kid somewhere to give me a quiet house. Often times he’s sending me upstairs to get a much needed break. He’s always been this way, but I’ve never been so honed into his selflessness. His love language is not gift giving, so every holiday is tricky. I think he’s starting to appreciate the new swim trunks, updated pairs of boxers, and new sneakers I’ve gotten for him lately.
