Baby Names Inspired By The South

June 29, 2014

Baby Names Inspired By The South In the south it is popular to keep with a charming, classic and timeless name. Some trends for baby names include using a double name; such as Mary Margaret or Billy Ray. Here, is a selection of names I’ve chosen that are inspired by the south through movies, regions, celebrities, and books.

Southern Girl Names:

Annabelle (Ladies from the South are often called Belle’s, putting a name in front to add the ‘double name’ is quit popular)

Camellia (Alabama state flower)

Caroline (North and South Carolina regions)

Georgia (Southern region)

Grace (Personality name often used by Southerners)

Harper (Author of To Kill A Mockingbird)

Olivia (Top 10 girl name in the southern states)

Savannah (Savannah, Ga the region)

Scarlett (Gone With the Wind)

Shelby (Steel Magnolia’s)

Southern Boy Names:

Ashley (Gone With the Wind)

Avery (Charlotte’s Web character)

Beau (Gone With the Wind)

Hunter (Personality name for a boy who comes from a family of hunters)

Jackson (Jackson, MS region)

Noah (Nicholas Sparks; The Notebook)

Rhett (Gone With the Wind)

Sawyer (from Adventures of Huckleberry Finn)

Tennessee (State of Tennesse and Reese Witherspoon’s son)

William (Southern Writer)

Did your child’s name make my list? Did you intentionally give your child a name with a southern feel? If so, let us know what his/her name is!

I am constantly being told that all three of my boys have Southern names! Carter, Maclane and Collins! (Which makes me laugh because I’m from North Jersey!) I will admit, I do think I was born to be a Southern girl at heart though! Living just below the Mason Dixon line in Maryland is only the beginning 😉 Congratulations on your launch, friend! Everything is beautiful!

Love the new blog! Everything looks great. Love that William made the list (our little boys first name). I think Eliza would be a good name to add to the southern girls list! 😉 I also think Jane is a good southern name! Look forward to following along!

We intentionally wanted our baby girl, Savannah, to have a southern name. It compliments her daddy’s name, Beau. 🙂 Love my southern named family!

Our little girl’s name is Molly Jo. That’s her first name, no middle name.
